Nebraska Custom Plates

Nebraska Custom Plates

Overview

The Department of Motor Vehicles provides all car-related services. The agency is responsible for the title and registration. You must register a new car within 30 days. Do not forget about sales tax. Enter the DMV website to calculate taxes. They help get a standard or a personalized license. Standard options usually have a white background and blue or black lettering. If you want to stand out, it is better to pick a different variant. Applying for them is quite easy and done online.

Custom License Plates in Nebraska

To obtain an outstanding tag, you need to visit the Department’s website. It features all rules and regulations.

The standard one has a white background with black lettering. You can claim a customized registration plaque.

Nebraska custom license plates have to be on:

  • motor vehicles
  • motorcycles
  • trailers, semi and cabin trailers

Types of personalized tags

Now when we know everything about the ordinary ones let’s examine the existing types. Those may contain both numbers, letters, and images. There is either the American flag, a medal, or an animal. The fees vary according to the categories. It takes around 4-5 weeks to receive them. Your order arrives at the County Treasurer Motor Vehicle Office.

There are 4 main categories:

  • specialty
  • military
  • organizational
  • special use

To get a military tag, the applicant has to identify the branch of service and check the eligibility. Those applying have to be enrolled in a relevant veteran organization.

There is another special type for families of soldiers who died on active duty. You can also pay $40 and ask to include a message of your choice.

Bear in mind that 75% of the proceeds go to the Veteran Cemetery Cash Fund.

The usual fee for this starts from $40. However, it is much more expensive for organizational versions. Members of non-profit companies should submit a request.

We need to mention certain requirements:

  • The company has to serve the community.
  • It does not have to be offensive in its goals.
  • The promotion of a specific brand or name is banned.
  • The logo, name, or image have to be authorized.
  • No copyright infringement is allowed.

Once you check if you are eligible, you can apply.

The popular specialty of 2022 is “Josh The Otter”. It was designed to raise awareness about child drawing. Those who are willing to spread awareness may submit an application paying $5.

Nebraska Special Interest Plate

Imagine you want to have a unique plaque on your old pickup or a vintage Rolls-Royce. It is not a problem if you are a resident of this state. The local authorities permit choosing a specific message. It must be placed on an automobile that is not used for general transportation. So, take it out of the garage only in case of parades, exhibitions, or similar events. Remember that neither motorbikes nor trailers are eligible for this.

Such plaques may contain:

  • messages ($50)
  • alpha/numeric combination ($70)

Both are usually requested either online or by mail. If you pick the second option, do not expect to get a specific combination.

There is a consecutive order in which drivers send their applications.

Note: changing the message is not allowed once the bid is processed.

Is a front tag required?

The legislation signed into law in 2016 allows the use of one plate upon request. The law came into effect on January 1, 2017. Unless a passenger car is not equipped with a bracket, one tag is allowed. This will cost you $50. There is also a decal to be displayed on a windshield near the driver’s seat.
