The DMV allows its residents to customize their car numbers. By deciding on the specific lettering of the tag you are adding your unique touch to it. Before applying for customization, look through the main requirements:
The state allows its residents to apply for individualized placards online or by mail. To practice online application, visit NE DMV’s website, scroll down and click on Order your specialty tag online, then follow the instructions.
If you prefer to apply through mail, you have to complete Personalized Nebraska License Plate Application. This application form has sections where you have to provide data on the registered owner and details of the vehicle.
Under the owner information, you have to provide the name, address, city, state, ZIP, and phone of the authorized owner. In the case of the vehicles that have been hired and have not been registered yet, the leasing agency stands for the authorized owner and you have to provide the latter’s details.
Under the section of the vehicle information, you have to choose the type of it, provide the VIN, current distinctive car number, titling number, region of authorization, and county number. Leased automobiles and non-resident military are subject to some exceptions.
Then you have to choose among specialty tag options and indicate 3 choices of preferred messages. Each of the writings has to be suitable for you. As if your first choice is not accessible or the state does not confirm it, the responsible verifying body will inevitably consider the second choice. Besides, after applying, you cannot transform the combinations and the state will not issue refunds.
After filling out all the required data, send the completed application form and the fees by post to:
301 Centennial Mall South PO Box 94789
Lincoln, NE 68509-4789
In addition to regular authorization costs, the government also charges fees for individualized placards. For the customization for the Standard NE tag, you have to pay $40. Tags of Douglas, Lancaster, or Sarpy Counties cost $40. For Husker Spirit pay $70.
NOTE: If you don’t indicate the payment with the application, the responsible public body will return it unprocessed. No refunds are issued. Moreover, for every returned check, a $30 processing fee is assessed.
Individualized tags in Nebraska will arrive during 4 to 6 weeks at the local County Treasurer’s Office. The State issues 2 tags; one for the front and another one for the rear. You have to attach both of them. Make sure they are clearly visible and firmly attached.
On the official website of the DMV, you are also to find special interest tags. These placards are not for general transportation; their owners may operate their automobiles on the public streets only in occasional terms, in parades and other leisure activities. The cost of the placard is $50.
If you need detailed information on tags you may check out Nebraska License Plate Lookup, or can pay a visit to the local County Treasurer’s agency or make a call at 402-471-3918.
